I will also add, before giving my judgements (which very well may be the only one you get) that you may vote for more than one person. If you're a contestant, you can (obviously) NOT vote for yourself.
Also, the vote deadline will be this Friday when I will post the results as well as the next theme. Thank you. Judgement to be put up shortly.

Elempi
That was spectacular! Once again you have proven to us why you're on this show!! Way to go dog! Saucy That was...interesting. I really did enjoy how you brought your own instruments. Vocally, however, it wasn't your best performance. Still, you did your best, so I'll give you props for that. TORE I'll tell you now that you're one of my favorites in this competition. I was really excited when I found out that you were going to be singing this song because I knew you'd rock it! Way to go! Celuien I actually liked that performance. It wasn't the best performance of the night, but it was definetly, in my opinion, your best performance. Way to go girl! Gurthang That was amazing dude! Probably the best performance of the night!! We have a hot one tonight!! Anguirel I must say that that was another interesting, however, it wasn't as interesting as Saucy's. It was entertaining, yes, but the vocals were quite off. I don't know what else to say. Mith You're another one of my favorites. I think you rocked that performance! What a way to end the show!! Way to go!

Elempi ~ Very funny, and entertaining. A little hard to understand sometimes but I still enjoyed it.
Saucy ~ Hmmm...well that was actually very good. A different choice for you but you did a good job. Ang ~ Well sung, but kinda boring, if you make it t the next round try to pick a more exciting song. TORE ~ I know you, like Gurthang, were not looking forward to singing country. (actually I don't think many people were, I wasn't looking forward to listening to it ) But I think you did a very good job with that song. Celuien ~ That was pretty good, I don't find it was your best performance but it's pretty high up, good job. Mith ~ I also really liked that performance, one of the best tonight. Great job! Gurthang ~ That was pretty good. You seemed like you meant it, keep up the good work! Good luck everyone!

I haven't disappeared! I'm like the Dwarvish disco-music that I DJ... and disco never goes away.
(As for that short, ahem, leave, I'm mearly getting my business in order for a certain, erm, journey. If anyone is interested in a spoon collection... ) And with that said, you may send your votes to me, also. Same rules apply (Not valid in South Farthing.)

All rilled up from the chaps and the spurs, our contestants nearly yodelled for the top spot for this week's round, but how did these cow-poke fair? Well, with the week (*cough*) gone, it's time for that dreeded elimination.
Who will it be this time? Middle Earth has voted, and now it's time that the results be announced! . . . TORE burned up the stage with this hot dwavian edition of "I Like it, I love it." Aulë would be proud of! But did it keep Middle Earth's toes tapping? Congratulations, TORE, you are advancing to the next round. Saucy was sizzling in his steely stir-fry best with what could easily be one of my favorite "singles" from his imaginative collection. Needless to say it was enough to capture the heart of his fellow's from the -range-, and will be remaining. *squinty grin* Picking up from one of those all-time Country Music legends, Mith brought down the house with her sensational "The Ranger"... needless to say, her song received the highest amount of votes. Kudos, Mith! Gurthang's tear jerking performance certainly reminded us what those good natured hairy-footed hobbits are all about, and his fans didn't diappoint him, either. Congratulations, Gurthang, you are continuing to the next round. Without any question Elempi's preformance certainly had the most..erm character to it but never-the-less the quick beat and quick wit got Middle Earth boot scooting toward the polls, winning him a spot in next week's competition. Celuien plain gets a gold star for calling Elrond "Pappy". Thats all I have to say. Oh, and you're still in the contest, too. Unfortunately that leaves our truely talented Anguirel as tonight's elimination. Good luck, buddy. *Sad squinting* . . . Thats it for tonight, Middle Earth. The next theme is Jazz, and the next deadline is (as of yet) the 12th of this month. As always, contact the judges or myself (currently it might be safer to contact my "dawg" Glirdan) if you have any questions or conflicts...or questions about conflicts/ conflicts about questions.

Aw, you guys have thrown in the bag on Jazz too quickly. See how much fun we all had with that gawdawrful Country? I'm sure a little googling could have turned up some really fun stuff to get swingin' about. And at the very worst we could fall back on something from Steely Dan, ya know? But if y'all wants R&B, I'm game. (sigh)

Truthfully (and here I again show my lack of music knowledge/history) I don't know the difference, so it makes no difference to me. I'll, again, be using google to help me out on this one. Although, that worked out pretty the last time I had to, so...

Well I have googled and still haven't a clue .... only a fortuitous fondness for Desert Island discs bailed me out last time (So many thanks to Clarissa Dickson- Wright...). This may be the end of the road... I don't like most jazz but at least I know what it is....and I might've found some Ella Fitzgerald....

Mith - if you're still looking for information, you might try Ray Charles or Aretha Franklin. I've been researching what constitutes R&B myself and came across those two perfomers as the ones I actually know.

Elempi comes on stage, slouch-strutting his way to the spotlight.
"Wassup. Be cool. I gots a good'un for you all. This song be from the philezzz of one Finarfin Gaye an' it be called 'I heard it through the Elfvine". I hope y'all take to it kindly like." A rhythmic backbeat sets it up an' Elempi starts snappin' his fingers, shufflin' along the floor in a sauntering dance step, smooth as a cat with mike in hand. Ooh, I bet you're wondering how I c'n sing 'bout your plans to take my bling With that nasty ol' Rulin' Ring. Between you an' me I think you know My ring ain't been touched by you. It took me by surprise I must say, When I learned you'd made the One. Don't you know that... I heard it through the Elfvine That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line. Oh I heard it through the Elfvine, Oh and I'm just about to close my mind. Honey, honey yeah. I know that a Elf ain't supposed to cry, But these tears I can't hold inside. Losin' Arda would end my life you see, Cause it means that much to me. You would have told me yourself That you made a Ring to capture mine. But Saury... I heard it through the Elfvine That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line. Oh I heard it through the Elfvine, Oh and I'm just about to close my mind. Honey, honey yeah. People say believe half of what you see, Son, and none of what you hear. I know you tryin' to confuse us With all that stuff from the palantirs- Do you plan to lure me in With that Ring just like with those nine Men? Don't you know... I heard it through the Elfvine That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line. Oh I heard it through the Elfvine, Oh and I'm just about to close my mind. Honey, honey yeah. Elempi breaks off the song but the backbeat continues as he starts shouting into the mike to the beat: Ain' no way! you gonna win heah! 'Cause we Free People! gonna stand firm heah! We gonna stand! and not back down now! Can I hear it! from the crowd now! Yeah! Put 'em togetha! Hold back the Dark Lord! High above you head now! Hold back the Dark Lord! Ain' no way! you gonna win heah! etc. etc. until the crowd's roaring, drowning out Elempi and the backbeat; Elempi bows and leaves the stage. |

At the suggestions of Gurthang & (secondarily & indirectly ) Celuien, here's a little Ray Charles in Hit the Road Jack, sung by Theoden/All of Edoras & Wormtongue.
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) Woah Theoden King, don't treat me so mean, You're actin' like the meanest old King that I've ever seen. I guess if you said so I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) Now Theoden, listen here, don't ya treat me this-a way Cause you'll be back on your feet some day. (Don't care - I am, Gandalf's made me well) (we ain't got no place here for you and your spell.) Well, I guess if you say so I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.) Well (don't you return no more.) Uh, what you say? (don't you return no more.) I didn't understand you (don't you return no more.) You can't mean that (don't you return no more.) Oh, now Theoden, please (don't you return no more.) What you tryin' to do to me? (don't you return no more.) Oh, don't treat me like that (don't you return no more.) |

A Viewer's Suggestion:
Apart from those already mentioned...early Rolling Stones would count as R&B. Otis Redding, anything from the film "The Blues Brothers", Wilson Pickett, Smokey Robinson (you should be able to do something with Tracks of My Tears, Mith...) Oh and the fact that such fine performers as we've seen on this programme were so reluctant to cover great singers like Ella, Billie, Sarah Vaughan etc, or to pastiche the songwriting genius of Cole Porter and Gershwin, was really very disappointing. *shakes head*

This is a tune called Think, original version by Aretha Franklin (it starts about two minutes into this clip from The Blues Brothers if anyone is interested) and represents what Nerdanel might have told Fëanor before he went about all of that Oath business. Think (think) think (think) think (think) think (think) think (think) think (think) You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see? Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free Let's go back, let's go back, let's go way on back when You had your pride, oh yes you did, but you weren't always so mad I ain't no Ainu, I ain't no Vala with decree But it don't take bein' on high TQ to see that this ain't what should be. You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see? Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom There ain't nothing I can do. I can't stop you so I won't (I won't) But won't you try to see that you can't win, so don't go, just don't You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see? Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free. Morgoth's walking around Arda, playing games that he can score And I ain't gonna be the loser my way, ah, be careful you don't lose yours You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see? Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know) But if you go there ain't nothing I can do Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom There ain't nothing I can do. I can't stop you so I won't (I won't) But won't you try to see that you can't win, so don't go, just don't You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know) But if you go there ain't nothing I can do (To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it) (To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it) (To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it) (To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it) You had better stop and think before you think, think!!

*clears throat* Well, here we are again for another delightful round of Gurthang-don't-know-his-genres-well-enough. I was pretty much limited to Ray Charles, BB King, and Aretha Franklin. I couldn't find any BB King anywhere, and TORE has (under my guidance) done a song by Ray already, so I didn't want to double up. So it was Aretha that I chose, which now means it will look like I'm copying off Celuien and will be doubling up anyway. I don't suppose you'd believe I had the song done before she had posted hers? Anyway, my song is simple called Silmaril and I will be singing as Thingol to Beren regarding his daughter and the fetching of a Silmaril. (listen to Respect by Aretha Franklin to get a feel of how it might sound.)
(oo) What you want (oo) Beren, I got (oo) What you need (oo) Do you know I got it? (oo) All I'm askin' (oo) Is for a little Silmaril when you come back (just a little one) Hey Beren (just a little one) when you get back (just a little one) mister (just a little one) I ain't gonna do you harm that's what I swore Ain't gonna do you harm (oo) But what I want (oo) All I'm askin' (oo) Is for a little Silmaril when you come back (just a little one) Beren (just a little one) when you get back (just a little one) Yeah (just a little one) If I'm to give you my daughter's hand And all I'm askin' in return is a gem You should hold me generous When you come back (just a, just a, just a, just a) Yeah Beren (just a, just a, just a, just a) When you get back (just a little one) Yeah (just a little one) ------ instrumental break ------ Ooo, your deeds (oo) Braver than many (oo) But guess what? (oo) I love my daughter plenty (oo) So I want you to do (oo) for me Is give me a Silmaril when you come back (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil) Yeah Beren (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil) Bring it to me (Silmaril, just a little one) When you get back, now (just a little one) S-I-L-M-A-R-I-L Find and bring one back to me S-I-L-M-A-R-I-L That is what it must be Oh (bring it to me, bring it to me, bring it to me, bring it to me) A little Silmaril (bring it to me, bring it to me, bring it to me, bring it to me) Whoa, Beren (just a little one) A little Silmaril (just a little one) I'm not lyin' (just a little one) About this errand (just a little one) So you better start movin' (just a little one) Times is wastin' (just a little one) (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil) 'maril When you come back (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil) If you should walk in (Silmaril, just a little one) You must have a gem (just a little one) I got to have (just a little one) A little Silmaril (just a little one)

Ahem! Apologies for the delay.
The Wikipedia entry for rhythm and blues provides a rather extensive list of artists associated with the genre, including some very well-known acts (including Sade, Mith). Yet still I found it hard to settle on a suitable song. In the end, I chose a touching ditty concerning misplaced love, by the popular Middle-earth singer, Estel Wingfoot (formerly of the Wingfoot 5). *The lights dim and then brighten again slightly to reveal a dark figure (sans pans) sporting a fedora and ranger cloak. The stage has been transformed into a cobbled street. As the music begins, the Saucepan Man (for 'tis he) begins to advance down street, lighting the cobblestones as he steps on them in time with the beat. Occasionally he stops to moonwalk, juggle his fedora, spin on the spot and clutch his (erm) ranger tackle, shrieking tunefully as he does so.* She was more like a glacial queen of the Rohirrim I said fair maid, but what do you mean I am the one Who will fight in the war, win renown She said I am the one, who will fight in the war, win renown She told me her name was Éowyn, of Théoden’s kin Then her head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one Who will fight in the war, win renown Gilraen always told me be careful of what you do And don't go around breaking young maid’s hearts And Arwen always told me be careful on your quest And be careful of what you do 'cause my eye is fixed on you (hey hey) Éowyn is not my lover But she's a girl who thinks that I am the one And her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone From Dunharrow down the eastward road To war with the men she rode She made her stand, said she was no man Took the Witch-King down Almost died in the war with renown So take my strong advice, just remember that maidens can fight (they can fight) She laid out cold in the White City The infirmary Then athelas brought her back to life And her eyes then met mine She who fought in the war with renown (baby) Gilraen always told me be careful of what you do And don't go around breaking young maid’s hearts From the moment she first saw me ‘Twas a shadow she pursued But she resolved to face her doom When I rode into the tomb (hey hey) Éowyn is not my lover But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one And her cage is now undone Éowyn is not my lover But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one And her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone Éowyn is not my lover But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one And her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone She thinks I am the one Éowyn is not my lover Éowyn is not my lover Éowyn is not my lover Éowyn is not my lover Éowyn is not my lover Éowyn is not my lover *Fade out*

Mithalwen arrives late as usual, her flustered state not entirely due to having to pour herself into quite such tight trousers and scrape her hair back so hard. She sings as Galadriel about Saruman :
Smooth talking traitor. He's allying with a different strength And playing a dangerous game. Placing high stakes, making hearts ache. He's named in many languages. Curunir and Saruman, Sharku or Curumo. Eru help him, when he falls. Palantir life, Ainur boy. We move to late against Dol Guldur - that was your ploy. Honeyed lies and Uruk Hai, When you require the ring and desire for higher heights. No place for nostalgia or trusting hearts When kings are bewitched, Tree-lords are stirring, and realms fall apart. No need to ask. He's a smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor Coast to coast, Valinor to Endor, Maia of Aulë . Between Arnor and Gondor, in Orthanc, loyalty for sale. Face to face, each classic case. We shadow box you double cross, Yet need the chase. A council to lead, duty to uphold. Betrays all his allies, he wants the ring of gold. His voice is an angel's but his heart is cold. No need to ask. He's a smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Coast to coast, Valinor to Endor, Maia of Aulë . Between Arnor and Gondor, in Orthanc, loyalty for sale. Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor, Smooth talking traitor... If this ain't RnB I am sorry.. I have a complete mental block on this that I am unabke to identify in my mind the genre even though I know some of the songs others have used. It probably doesn't help that I thought Ray Charles was a ventriloquist .....

Cowell's Comments
Elempi
That was a marginally above average performance. You didn't have any bad parts so to so and it was a rather smooth performance. You enjoy yourself out there and you can entertain as well. You dance like a drunk hippo though... The Only Real Estel That was an... excellent... performance. Well done young man. I think the competition has reached a stage where even the smallest mistake could get you eliminated. I don't think you should worry, you seem to have made no mistakes. Celuien I think that was a rather weak performance. You could have done so much better but instead you churned out a rather average and not at all entertaining song. I've heard better things at Karaoke Queen. Gurthang Once again you have shown why you are my favorite. You sang that very well and I was entertained this week as well, I'd like to see you win this competition. Good luck. Saucepanman I am shocked. You really can sing. You don't dance that bad either. Ahem, apart from that the song had some shaky parts but I think you did alright. Mithalwen I heard you were a nervous wreck before this round and were considering leaving. I must say for someone in that sort of state you've quite possibly given us the performance of the night. Lets hope for the sake of competition you do not ever drop that nervousness.

Here are my comments for this round:
Elempi ~ I agree with Cowell on this, you looked like you were having fun and you were very entertaining. Great job! TORE ~ That was an OK performance. It wasn't one of your best, but it was still fairly good. Celuien ~ Well hun, that wasn't my favorite of you performance. You snag it well but I think you would have been able to pick a better song. Gurthang ~ I loved that. I really enjoyed, though it was kinda weird, I think it was one of the best this round. Saucy ~ A bit long and repetitive, but your singing and dancing was good. In all, it was entertaining. Mithalwen ~ I know you weren't to sure what kind of song we wanted you to pick, but I think you chose a good one. I really enjoyed that performance. Good luck everyone!

Judgement Day!!
Elempi - That was awsome dude! I'm going to say now that at this point in the competition, it's going to get harder for the voters to choose who to keep in. Still, I think you'll be with us a little while longer! Keep it up dog!
TORE - Week after week you come out here and amaze us. If I don't see you in the finals, I'll eat my socks! Celuien - That wasn't one of your best performances by far. You could have done so much better. It just didn't work for me girl. Gurthang - You're an amazing performer. There were a few spots where you were a little off key. Other than that, you rocked it! Saucy - You too are an amazing performer and we have finally seen the best vocal performance from you ever! That was really entertaining and you have shown us why you're still in this! Good job dog! Mithalwen - Everybody knows you're one of my favorites and I wasn't dissapointed. I knew you had trouble picking a song, but the song you picked was perfect for you. The vocals were amazing, the performance was amazing. You have it all. What a way to end the show!

It's... finally here, the Finals, that is. And all eyes are fixed on Rivendell. Or, at least they ought to be... Tomorrow, however, there will be one less contestant, only five preformers to rock the Hall of Fire. Just who's walking tonight? Thats what we're about to find out.
*turns toward the six remaining preformers* --- First of all I have to congratulate each and everyone of you for making it this far, and also that I hate to see anyone go. But Middle Earth has voted, so if I may continue alphabetically... - The judges might not have liked her latest lyrics, but Celuien's fans were not swayed by their comments. Personally, I don't think I want to know what madness drove - of all people - Sleepy Cowell into a Karaoke bar. You are safe. - Elempi has long been an Idol favorite, and according to the judges, preformed nicely. But did Middle Earth agree with Cowell and Wilwa? Yes. You're safe... And don't worry about Cowell's drunken hippo comment, he's really just jealous you were taking his 'secret' moves. - Sleepy Cowell's "favorite" contestant so far, Gurthang also received gold stars from Wilwa, however that did not save him from the hot seat. As one of the two lowest contestants, Gurthang, we'll have you preform again after the other is revelled.* - Mithalwen might have been trapped in an artist's nightmare preparing for her song, but her voice was a dream. Not only is she safe tonight, probably very relieved. - Without a doubt Saucey has been jingling and jangling his tunes up and down the Hall with a mixture of great success and Westron spices, but even after impressing Glirdy, and somewhat amusing Sleepy... as far as we're able to tell... Middle Earth was not swayed by the way you... Wok. I'm sorry to say, but are also in the hot seat, and will be preforming later tonight.* - Last but definately not least, TORE is safe once more from the elimination. * (You won't need to actually post since the song will be a repeat. I'll do all the work for you.) --- *Vala leads Gurthang and Saucy to the stage where they are urged to sing their Jazz/R&B tunes once more...before Vala cuts in just when the songs pick up.* There you are! Audience... vote now, you have ten more seconds.. five, four, three, two, one-- OKAY! *Vala squints* While those are being tallied up, I'm pleased to announce that of the four still sitting the top two artists have yet to be revelled... so why don't we do that, hmm? Congratulations TORE, for your great voice, and also... Mithalwen! Oh... Alright, fine. I'm not pleased at ALL to announce that we will have to say good bye to one of our talented preformers -now-. Gurthang... Saucy... It has been wonderful having both of you sing here for us, and I hope the experiance has been just as great. Maybe you'll get further next time... but as for now... Gurthang, you are safe: The Saucepan man will be leaving the Hall of Fire forever. My apologizes to the many Pan-fans out there. Thats all for tonight, keep checking for updates, and please keep voting. ________ The next theme will be #1 Hits. provided is a [link] to the Billboard Top 100 website where you can find a list. Please be sure to select a song from the 'Hot 100 Era', and no others... the deadline will be the 27th, if all goes right... Also, If there are issues, please contact the judges.

I must say that I'm quite upset to see you leave us Saucy. However, I have a feeling that you'll be doing something else musically related in your future. The best of luck to you!
And for everyon else, I shall be doing an interview for this weeks Newspaper with this weeks elimination and with our host, Vala Seacrest. So look out!
