I was just wondering about this the other day...

Considering "real" elf ears are no different than our own, surgery would hardly be necessary.

Yes, it is posible. I've seen (well, on TV) people who have actually done that. They actualy did it to look like vulcan ears, bet they are basically the same thing.
I would probebly, but it would probebly hurt more then it was worth. It might also be anoying because I have a probeblem with my ears, I have to put drops in and that might be more... interesting with "elf ears".

Gee, that's what I would need... more attention being drawn to my already enormous ears.
When I was ten, my right ear was bit off by a dog on Christmas Eve. It took 72 stitches to sew it back on, and I will always feel indebted to the doc who did such good work (the scar isn't even noticable in the front). Believe me, it was no joy ride, and I wouldn't go through anything like that ever again.

As much as I admire the ears of the elves, I do not think I'd go through plastic surgery to get them. That is just so..intense and so seriously drastic to me. First of all, I'd be far too afraid to go through with it. Plus, I might get sick of them. And I already have too many people stare at me for my insane antics.
If I did anything like that to physically show my devotion to LOTR, I'd get a tattoo for sure. In fact, when I'm older, if I had to pick what tattoo I'd get I'd get something written in Elvish or perhaps a symbol or small picture related to LOTR tattooed on the small of my back.

I wouldn´t. I want the same type of ears as Tolkien´s elves (if that makes sense), and as their ears look like ours (as red said), then I wouldn´t want to make my ears pointy. I already have Elven ears!

Well, I already have pointy ears. And I love them. But I don't think I would spend THAT MUCH money just to get them even more pointier. Although, it would be a good idea if I didn't have to pay.

I wouldn't want pointy ears, but what I would like is the leathery soles of the hobbits (eww?). I love to go barefoot, then I could do it even in snow.

Elf ears are cool, but I wouldn't want real ones. You know what elf ears look like, but does the surgeon know? What if it caused damage to your ears? I don't want to even imagine how painful it would be!
So many things could go wrong. And it could limit your choice of future careers if you don't have one already. (I think people would prefer hiring someone with regular ears over someone with elf ears.) And once the surgery is done, there's no turning back.

I love Elf ears and would do JUST ABOUT anything to get the...But the thought of a knife to My ears comes of as bad jelly to Me. What if the dope slipped? i revil in the fact I can hear high picted freqnces no one else can and I wouldent do anything to damage My hearing.
BUT!!! I am going to see if I can get the gelletion add-ons Thats the much simpler solution... For Me anyways

I would love to have elf ears, but the plastic surgen would probably make them too pointy and then I would be stuck with them for life. I think the gelatin add ons are a very good idea, Kithrena.

Here's a link to a webpage that shows you how to make elf ears.
Note This process involves making a plaster cast of your ear. This Could Get Messy
