Survivor: Surviving the Minor Works
Welcome to the latest game of Survivor: Surviving the Minor Works.
52 contestants from 5 tribes vie for the title of Most Major Minor. Get out your minor works, boys and girls, because you'll need to re-read just to figure who some of these characters are. Rules for play are as follows: Each day vote for who you want to see expelled from the game. Votes will be tallied and the character with the most votes will die or be banished. If there are any ties, the characters tied for the most votes will bite the dust together. Each day will last 24 hours, starting and ending at Midnight CST (DST). Right now it is 9 PM CST (DST) Sunday April 9th so this first day will be slightly longer, ending at 12 AM Tuesday April 11th. Vote for who you want gone, thusly: + + Tom Bombadil Votes are retractable up to the deadline and should be done thusly: - - Tom Bombadil All votes will be counted, but please give reasons for your votes. Reasons need not be strictly Tolkien related, but reasons should have something to do with the stories, characters, or the game. The tribes and contestants are as follows: Farmer Giles of Ham Ægidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham) Gram, his dog The Giant from the Wild Hills King Augustus Bonifacious Chrysophylax Dives The Miller The Parson Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith Smith of Wooton Major/Leaf By Niggle Master Cook Rider Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie Nokes Smith of Wooton Major Nell Queen of Faerie Niggle Mr. Parish The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems) Tom Bombadil Goldberry Badger Old Man Willow The Barrow-wight Goodman Maggott Princess Mee Fíriel The Mewlips Troll Perry-the-Winkle Roverandom Roverandom The Wizard Artaxerxes The Little Boy Psamothos Psamathides Mew, the Seagull Man-in-the-Moon Moon-dog Great White Dragon Mer-dog Uin, the Whale Princess Pam The Sea-serpent Mr. Bliss Mr. Bliss Girabbit Mr. Binks Mr. Day Mrs. Knight Archie Teddy Bruno Fattie Dorkins Albert Dorkins Herbert Dorkins Egbert Dorkins Sergeant Boffin ~~~~~~~~~~ First day begins now. Have fun!

Um *cough*, guys, these characters aren't that obscure. I know who they all are, after all.
If you want a nudge in the beginning direction, I should say I rather expect a fight over old Bombadillo, though I have no control over the matter and it's all up to you people to vote.

I know the minor works and their characters well, but I don't have the time to get involved in a game like this, especially not now before the Easter holiday weekend - sorry!

How untoward! Championing the reign of the heir before the predecessor is dead and buried?
Do you honestly expect me to begin killing... er voting... off people here before Tar-Míriel... I mean, before I've officially counted the votes for my own game? Pffffle!!! ++ Sunny Sam What kind of a medieval name is that? I mean, "Sunny" sounds vaguely hippy, modernish... More the name of a cartoon character than a blacksmith. And Sam Gamgee already has dibs on the name "Sam".

Only Mr Bliss is entirely unknown to me; I've read Roverandom but completely forgotten the contents...
++PRINCESS PAM Clearly a case of that villainous Tolkien fellow plagiarising Sony's Mariocart, just like the time when he infamously stole the plot of EA Games: Lord of the Rings, and the occasion when he imported the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter. Honestly, the man should be arrested. Next he'll try ripping off Peter Jackson's Oscar winning masterpiece, The Return of King Kong or whatever.

Well, since I can do this without committing myself for the whole game, I will cast a vote for
++The Mewlips just because they creep me out - and because their poem aggravates me, as it has no direct quotes that I can use for the "minor works" quotes and Palantír threads! Maybe I need to quote a few lines from the poem to prove my point: Quote:

++Everyone other than Tom Bombadil.
Who the heck are they? Tom saved the hobbits twice. That's worth some merit.

I must admit that I know remarkably few of these characters, having only read some of Roverandom and being familiar with the Tom Bombadil set of characters from LotR...
However, even though I don't mind Tom as much as I used to, I still can't sit by and watch him get anywhere close to the end... ++Hey derry dol's ++Tom Bombadil |

End of Day the First
The inaugural day of Minor Works Survivor began slowly, with the judges warily eyeing many of the unfamiliar contestants. Votes, when they came, were varied. At the end, two unlucky characters ended up tied:
Tom Bombadil: 2 votes Princess Pam: 2 votes Sunny Sam: 1 vote The Mewlips: 1 vote The Giant from the Wild Hills: 1 vote The Sea-serpent: 1 vote And so, Tom and Pam were literally trussed up together and heaved into the Sea. Tom gave a cry of "Hey derry dol!" with a mysterious wink and Pam, being the Princess of the Sea, simply smiled as she returned to her home with a mighty splash. Day the Second finds 50 remaining contestants: Farmer Giles of Ham Ægidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham) Gram, his dog The Giant from the Wild Hills King Augustus Bonifacious Chrysophylax Dives The Miller The Parson Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith Smith of Wooton Major/Leaf By Niggle Master Cook Rider Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie Nokes Smith of Wooton Major Nell Queen of Faerie Niggle Mr. Parish The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems) Goldberry Badger Old Man Willow The Barrow-wight Goodman Maggott Princess Mee Fíriel The Mewlips Troll Perry-the-Winkle Roverandom Roverandom The Wizard Artaxerxes The Little Boy Psamothos Psamathides Mew, the Seagull Man-in-the-Moon Moon-dog Great White Dragon Mer-dog Uin, the Whale The Sea-serpent Mr. Bliss Mr. Bliss Girabbit Mr. Binks Mr. Day Mrs. Knight Archie Teddy Bruno Fattie Dorkins Albert Dorkins Herbert Dorkins Egbert Dorkins Sergeant Boffin

Along with the rest of his villainous crew, this shady character refuses to reveal his first name. He's obviously a Colombian coke dealer, a Mafioso or a CIA operative. See you, Giovanni! Not so blasted secretive now!

I suggest we send
++Perry-the-Winkle away. He is definitely not thinking of the general welfare of the others, since he eats up all of the food and leaves none for his fellow villagers.

The S.P.O.C.S.T. (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Stone Trolls) sees this vote as a preemptive strike against future trolls being confused by terms such as "Burra-hobbits" which tend to confuse their not capacious intellects. P.S. Food for thought: for future Survivors, what about an all-girl Survivors, all-hobbit, and perhaps the most interesting (certainly the bloodiest) an all-orc Survivor?

End of Day the Second
The second round of voting found more wide-spread opinions on who should go, but only one contestant became the victim of collaberation.
Perry-the-Winkle: 2 votes The Sea-serpent: 1 vote Mr. Binks: 1 vote Mr. Parish: 1 vote Princess Mee: 1 vote Mer-dog: 1 vote And so, Perry-the-Winkle was butchered and his copious amounts of fat were made into butter and spread onto bread. Thus the Poems Tribe took yet another hit. Day the Third finds 49 remaining contestants: Farmer Giles of Ham Ægidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham) Gram, his dog The Giant from the Wild Hills King Augustus Bonifacious Chrysophylax Dives The Miller The Parson Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith Smith of Wooton Major/Leaf By Niggle Master Cook Rider Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie Nokes Smith of Wooton Major Nell Queen of Faerie Niggle Mr. Parish The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems) Goldberry Badger Old Man Willow The Barrow-wight Goodman Maggott Princess Mee Fíriel The Mewlips Troll Roverandom Roverandom The Wizard Artaxerxes The Little Boy Psamothos Psamathides Mew, the Seagull Man-in-the-Moon Moon-dog Great White Dragon Mer-dog Uin, the Whale The Sea-serpent Mr. Bliss Mr. Bliss Girabbit Mr. Binks Mr. Day Mrs. Knight Archie Teddy Bruno Fattie Dorkins Albert Dorkins Herbert Dorkins Egbert Dorkins Sergeant Boffin

++Fattie Dorkins
Poor guy, his name is Fattie Dorkins. Imagine how the schoolkids must tease him! He must be traumatized, having the silliest name on the island. I can just imagine the Latin and Greek named characters picking on him. So he doesn't get too depressed, I'm voting him off the island and back to civilization where he can change his name to something more dignified. |

Alcarillo has unwittingly revealed a shocking
bit of bigotry by JRRT, to wit, his anti-large people agenda. (Fattie Dorkins, Fatty Lumpkin, Fatty Bolger- the noblest hobbit of them all). But then again they are his works, so: + + Fattie Dorkins And let's hope there's no elf singing of Fat people got no right to live.

You know, Tuor in Gondolin, I think we're onto something. Just look at the descrimination against Bombur in the Hobbit. When at Beorn's house, Gandalf instructs the dwarves to enter by twos. Listen to what he says to Bombur:

End of Day the Third
The third round ended late because the moddess forgot all about it, but even this was not enough to save two minor characters:
Fattie Dorkins: 2 votes The Sea-serpent: 2 votes Mr. Parish: 1 vote Farmer Giles: 1 vote King Augustus: 1 vote And so, with cries of, "Tolkien was against fat people, and if it's good enough for Tolkien, it's good enough for us!" the judges fed Fattie Dorkins to The Sea-serpent. Then they slaughtered the Sea-serpent and made it into chic purses, boots, belts, watch straps, and hat bands. Day the Fourth finds 47 remaining contestants: Farmer Giles of Ham Ægidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham) Gram, his dog The Giant from the Wild Hills King Augustus Bonifacious Chrysophylax Dives The Miller The Parson Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith Smith of Wooton Major/Leaf By Niggle Master Cook Rider Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie Nokes Smith of Wooton Major Nell Queen of Faerie Niggle Mr. Parish The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems) Goldberry Badger Old Man Willow The Barrow-wight Goodman Maggott Princess Mee Fíriel The Mewlips Troll Roverandom Roverandom The Wizard Artaxerxes The Little Boy Psamothos Psamathides Mew, the Seagull Man-in-the-Moon Moon-dog Great White Dragon Mer-dog Uin, the Whale Mr. Bliss Mr. Bliss Girabbit Mr. Binks Mr. Day Mrs. Knight Archie Teddy Bruno Albert Dorkins Herbert Dorkins Egbert Dorkins Sergeant Boffin
