The hobbits real names
I remember reading that the names of the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings are anglized versions of their real names. This morning I wanted to go back to that section of the Return of the King but unfornutatly I am at college at the college's copy has been checked out and is not due until April 20. So does anyone know of another source where I can find more information on that and the langague spoken in the Shire. Thank you
P.S. The college only has the first two books of the History of Middle Earth so I would not be able to look up references from those books easily. Thank you |

Well since I emptied my briefcase for an interview.. I don't have ROTK either but a very useful online reference is:
http://www.encyclopedia-of-arda.com where you can learn that Merry is Kalimac Brandagamba but strangely they don't Sam and Ham as Ban and Ran...

We owe the maker of this site (a Mr. Helge Kåre Fauskanger) a very nice present.
