Greetings all im not sure if this is a stupid question that i should know but where where the gates of morning that the men of numenor saild to and what was there?

The Gates of Mourning were in the eaternmost portion of Arda. They were probably the gates in the Wall of Night, which the sun passed through in the morning.

There is a picture of them on History of Middle Earth Part 2, with Earendil sailing ,into the 'void' (solar system) where Melkor and probably Sauron are lurking somewhere.
