I don't need anyone or anything to tell me quite how obsessed I am , but last week somebody came from the one of the more distant eyries of my office specifically to ask me a question about Elrond. Bearing in mind that the place puts Gormenghast to shame, they must have heard some hair raising tales of my obsession to make the journey.

When you ask you principal what he is doing and he proceeds to reply "I don't know, what am I doing?"
You tell him he is 'wandering the paths of Mirkwood' and he says "Okay I'm Wandering the paths of Mirkwood." and walks off.

You prove you are truly obsessed with LotR when:
someone asks you what your Evenstar Pendant is, and then they add "Oh, must be something from that Ring movie." While playing a game in science class, my teacher (who is a fan of the movies) asked about 10 LotR questions. I ran to the marker board and answered all of the questions correctly, allowing the girls team to win. The boys don`t let him ask LotR questions anymore. I`d like to add that yesterday, I went to the orthodontist and chose dark blue and silver rubber bands because they reminded me of Gondor.

You know you're obsessed with LOTR when....
You send your friends e-mails that say things like (and I quote):
Im just mentally wrestling with some possibilities out of the Osanwe-Kenta, which is like, right out on the farthest reaches of Tolkienism! You know who you are!!! |

Try tattooing it (the inscription on the ring) on yourself! My friend tried to tattoo it around his ankle but gave up and went to a professional tattoo parlor. DONT TRY THIS AT HOME! (It does look very nice when it's all done properly though, if you don't mind being marked as a rings fan forever)

You know your obsessed when you finally get enough money saved up to buy LotR Trivial Pursuit then realize your the only one that would know the answers.
When you long for an intelligent conversation extending past the movies about the history of Middle Earth or certain characters. (Yeah I think I'm the only one around where I live that has read the books.)

You get ticked off when you're talking to someone and have to explain what a Balrog is. (Guilty)
Christmas has lost its glimmer since ROTK came out last year. What do we have left to look forward to? (Guilty) You realize that you've been mentally referring to yourself by your elven name. (Guilty.) You go crazy when you find out that Council of Elrond (www.councilofelrond.com) has a name generator that will tell you what your real name translates to in Quenya, Sindar, and Rohirric by telling you what your English name means and then using the elven/Rohirric translation for the words. (guilty)

obsession
I know that I'm obsessed with LOTR because my friend and I used to passs notes at school written in runes and spend every moment talking as if the characters were sitting right there with us....not as bad as some but pretty. OH yeah, this winter when it snowed really bad at home I felt like an elf because I walked on top of the snow(due to the fact that there was only about 2 inches of snow and the rest was ice!).

I used to write in the dwarvish runes all the time. I actually didn't do it right because I only used the first twenty-six to substitute for all the letters of the alphabet. I've forgotten most of them, though. I used to write all the charatcters and the actors' names in the runes when I was bored. Which was pretty often. And I can quote a lot of the lines from the movies. It's all my dad's fault, really. He bought me The Hobbit a few years ago for Christmas, and I've been hooked ever since!

....you want to form your children's young impressionable minds to everything LOTR. For instance, mine were scared of lightning/thunder. I told them not to be afraid, it was the stone-giants (from 'The Hobbit') hurling thier rocks down the mountains. My eldest was miffed when she learned about the real weather, so I told her that it was a myth. A tale to explain something scary.
....you keep having children so you can have a big hobbit family. I'm up to 4!! ....you are happy that your husbands method of hunting is with a bow, and he isn't into LOTR.

Another...
You make a flash music movie/video with Legolas, Galadriel, Elrond, Fidwit, and a whole elvish choir...singing the ORIGINAL SCORE of "I feel Pretty" from West Side Story...
Okay, my friend and I were really bored... Plus it was funny when the video's test drive was stuck on that creepy galadriel picture were she's "glowing". Besides that, Legolas was great for the acrobatic scene shots... ~Broadway Ka~

My friend once gave a list that had ten things LOTR addicts did. # 1 was "You legally change your name to Aragorn and hang around local taverns harrassing little people." Anyone guilty? Can't say that I am.
I don't know if this counts but every time my friend comes over we spend the whole time (usually 3+ hours) playing The Battle for Middle Earth. When he walked into the house, all I said was, "It's on" and walked upstairs. He sat straight down at the computer and we didn't stop playing for 3 hours. Talk about an addicting LOTR game!

Heh, I still write in runes, even though I have no one to write to unless it is in a letter. I often use them to write my poems, stories, secrets, ect. in my journal. My brother knows them, but I don`t think he would ever take the time to read something I`ve written. And there`s always the stupid little things I write on my hands like, I poke badgers with spoons, or trees. When people ask what it says I love to tell them and see the looks on their faces! I`ve gone on long enough. Shutting up. ~Nim

You know you're addicted when there's a guy at your school whose name sounds like Cirdan and every time you hear it you go into a LOTR trance. (guilty) You know you're addicted when you start referring to your chemistry teacher as Denethor because every experiment he does involves burning or blowing something up. (guilty) This one should go in the You Know You're Addicted to the BD, but... what the heck. You know you're addicted when you start having dreams about Boromir breaking into your house so he can play your Dance Dance Revolution. (Guilty) He was dancing to the disco song "Ladies Night," in case you were wondering. He was pretty good at it, too. Your idea of a good "oldie but goodie" game is The Two Towers for PS2. The one that came out only two years ago. (Guilty. Does anybody else think Gimli looks like a dried apple in that one?) You've spent hours staring at the monitor playing The Third Age, trying to get Elegost and Morwen to level up without dying. (Guilty)

You know you're obssesed with LOTRs when:
- You give Elvish names to all your friends and family - You are fluent in dwarf runes - You observe something written in a different language, have no idea what it really says, but can figure out what it might say in Elvish - You walk around barefoot all the time, just because a Hobbit does - You constantly compare people to the races of Middle Earth (Well, she's an Elf, he's definitely a Dwarf...) - You go around acting like an Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit... - You get jealous of anyone with pointed ears or large hairy feet - You know the history of the Silmarils better than you know the history of your own country. - You're considering naming you children after LOTRs characters...

But to what I was really gonna say. It was insanely cold today, but the sun was out. So when I went to work and as I was walking to the door I found myself (without even meaning to) saying "There is no warmth left in the sun." Not quite the same context as Eowyn meant it, but sooo cold...

... when you get a piece called Annie Laurie in wind ensemble, and immediately draw a dieresis over the 'e' so it can be Quenya for "golden." (So guilty!) I'm trying to think of what I can do with the Annie part now... maybe I'll scribble out the 'ie' and write in 'ar' so it can say "gifts." Yeah, I think I'll do that...

I was watching Jeopardy today and the one category was about character's parting words. One of the clues was "Oh precious, my precious" etc. I started jumping up and down and laughing hysterically . . . causing my parents in the other room to think that I'm crazy (not an unfounded guess, really)
Ok, and just now I was watching the show LOST on ABC, and Dom's character got punched, repeatedly. This time I yelled out "Where's SAM!?!?!" (Save A Merry Foundation - for preventing Hobbit abuse) This time I was alone so no crazy looks.

Sometimes, I treat my sister like an orc. But, that's not obsession. Once, I was playing basketball, and started using the ball like it was a Palantir. I even got the wicked finger movements down. Although, I didn't hear any spooky voices, or see anything.
