I am getting my name in elvish tatooed and I wanted to make sure that I had the translation right. Let me know if any of you are elvish professionals. Thanks

Greetings, Goodol Tom!
Will you be satisfied with the Elvish translation of your name in Roman letters (such as these)? Or will you want it in Tengwar (Fëanorian letters) or Angerthas (runes)? That would add some authenticity. (The actors of the movie Fellowship have Tengwar "9" tattoos - although I don't know what Tengwar symbol they used.) For starters, using Tengwar would require spelling the translation phonetically and learning how to apply the tehta to the Tengwar for vowels - and Sindarin & Quenya each treat these differently. I'm still trying to learn this stuff to do some artwork - but I'm not using my skin as the canvas! You might want to take the time to do some research and get the tattoo design exactly the way you want. Good luck!

Welcome to the Downs, GoodolTom! I'm moving your question to the Novices and Newcomers forum, since it's not a book discussion. I hope you'll continue to get helpful answers there!

If you REALY want to learn elvish then I suggest this website;
http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/index.html It not only gives Elvish (Quenya, Sindarin, Telerin, Nandorin and Primitive Elvish) but also Dwavish, many tongs of men and a small section on Entish. Be warned, this site looks into the structure of Elvish words, phrases ect. So you may want to check out the Quenta Course and such before going rashly into getting a word tattooed on you. You never know if it is wrong.
