To make this topic interesting for those who read it, please don't just list your favorites - explain why you think they're "cool"!

I like Feanor. Even though he's not a hero, his rebellious attitude just makes you have to love him. There's a bit of Feanor in all of us....
Also, I like myself, Fingolfin, because he challenged and wounded the greatest being in Arda as well as being HK of the Noldor and trying to be nice to his deranged half-brother .

earendil and fingolfin. I like earendil because if it werent for him morgoth wouldnt have been overthrown and fingolfin because he was nothing like his evil half brother feanor or his seven sons and give morgoth a run for his money

OK I like Fingolfin because he is such a hero and I think that he should be like Finrod or Glorfindel and get reincarnated because of his life.
I like Thingol because he forsook the Undying Lands and the chance of seeing the Two Trees to be with Melian. although why they couldn't be together in Valinor is beyone me. I know they got put in that trance thing. But I'm sure Ulmo could check back every now and then to see if the Sindar found him.

I like Finrod because he loved so much to give up his life for his friend. Even a lowly man. What a awesome elf!

I would have to choose Ecthelion, in another thread I put him down as the person I would want to fight under. I hold Ecthelion in great respects for slaying Gothmog.

I have to go with Lúthien, because she was willing to give up everything she had, including her own life, for the man she loved.
And Beleg, just because he's so bloody hardcore.

Maedhros is one of my two favorites because he seems like the most level-headed of Feanor's sons. He was least likely to explode and kill someone, and he actually tried to heal some of the damage caused by his father.
My second favorite, Beleg Cuthalion, is even more straightforward. He went to any lengths to help his friend, even if it ultimately meant his death. Such devotion is rarely found in any race, at any time.

Has to be Idril. Of course, I may be a bit biased.
And Maedhros is fascinating, arguably the most tragic figure in Middle-earth history (with his great virtues and flaws). |

My favorites of the First Age are Gil-Galad and Cirdan, overall because of the way they led their lifes!
