What stands out in my mind after reading the trilogy was that Frodo could see the "fireworks" of Gandalf on weathertop while still at a distance. They did not dare take the road, so it was slow travel. Did they come across Bilbo's Trolls before weathertop?
|

From that hill one could see for miles around! ...he heard Theodred's great voice cry "To me, Eorlingas!"

The tower was taken by joined forces of Angmar and Rhudaur in TA 1409 in the battle Arveleg I was killed. Anar kaluva tielyanna!

I imagine Bilbo stayed at Bree and the Forsaken Inn but we never hear of it . I imagine if JRRT had rewritten the Hobbit as he contemplated we might have seen glimpses or more of the desolate lands between. <a href="http://www.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=8&t=000000e Creation of a Revised Silmarillion Lindil's Tolkien/Christian discussion boardOsanwe, http://pub41.ezboard.com/btarostineruhirTar Ost-in-Eruhir. They came across Bilbo's trolls after Weathertop... they came to the Trollshaws the same day they met up with Glorfindel.
