The Name Game
Okay here's how it works. You give an alternate name for a character and the rest of us half to geuss his more common name such as this easy one. Q:Who is Mithrandir? A: Gandolf the Grey. Well i'll start of and hope some others try it. Who was known as Camlost?

Beren? I'm new to Tolkien, so if I'm wrong, and that's a stupid answer, that's why.

Maybe you are new to Tolkien, Arwen, (so am I,) but I get the same result. I too think it's Beren - Túroch?

Quite correct Arwen1858. The right answer is Beren. Camlost means empty handed. The elves called him that after he cam before Thingol without a Silmaril. You ask one now.

I'm not sure how hard of a question this is for those of you who have been reading Tolkien for years, but here goes... Who was Alatáriel, and for extra points, who gave this person that name?

Alatariel was Galadriel, and is an ancient name, but I dunno who gave it to her. Do I still get the points?

Right then, new question. If I were to wish you a good "loa", what race would I be and what on earth would I be talking about?

uh, hate to burst your bubble, but when I posted, I was posting my answer which came seconds after yours. When I found you had posted first, I deleted my post so as to not take up room. But you must have thought it to be a confirmation, however I did not ask the question, so I cannot conform it. We usually wait for the asker to confirm. BTW, Welcome to the Downs!!! Yes, it is Galadriel. The name Alatáriel was given to her by Celeborn. Your turn now, tom bombariffic! Oh, welcome to the Downs and have fun being dead!!

Well since I did one just a little while ago i'll let someone else have a go if they will.
Oh and i'm not sure that the Loa question is a good name question. I'm more looking for names of people not exactly things.

Congratz TolkienGurl a capital guess. You are correct Gil-galad means "Star of Radiance" Gil-Estel means "Star of Hope" and is the Sindarin name for Eärendil. Well the balls in your court now.
