See it Saw it!
This is based on a childrens' programme that was on TV a while ago. Basically the "quizmaster" asks questions, where each answer is a letter. The players write down the letters that they get, and after the set of questions finishes, all the letters, in order, form a word. The first person to write this word wins, and gets to ask questions!
An example of a question: How old was Aragorn at the time of his ascension to the throne?
The example can be the first question. I'll post the next later today, the third tomorow, etc. etc. You needn't post until the set of questions is finished, unless
I edited it because I'd made a mistake. [ January 01, 2003: Message edited by: LePetitChoux ]

The next letter is the first in the "official" name of Mount Doom.
And the last is the 4th in the name of the Waterfall that Boromir's Funeral boat goes over. And now, if you have it, post the word which is formed from the clues!

Tuor? That makes sense, but unless the tale of years in my copy of LotR is incorrect Aragorn was 88. 2931-3019

OK, the first two letters are the two first letters of JRRTolkien's mum's name.
The third letter: How old did the old Took become? 123 - G 147 - F 130 - N 137 - H The fourth letter is the first letter in the answer of this little riddle of Gollum's: It cannot be seen, cannot be felt Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt It lies behind stars and under hills And empty holes it fills It comes first and follows after Ends life, kills laughter The fifth letter is the first letter of Gandalf's name in the far West The last letter is the first letter in the name of Merry's father. A little harder now...
The first letter is the initial of its bearer The second is the first letter in the (informal?) name of a town near the Lonely mountain The third is the second in the name of its bearer The 4th is the first letter of the Lonely Landmark in the Hobbit The 5th is the third in the name of a river which runs from Ered Mithrin down to the Bay of Belfalas. And the last four are an objest which Bilbo finds on his journeys which proves very important later on. (well duh! ) Good luck!

OK, I thought this game was quite fun, so I'll try to bring this thread back to life.
1st letter: Who did Bill the Pony belong to before he joined the fellowship? Bill Ferny - B Farmer Maggot - P Fatty Bolger - S 2nd: Which character does Alexandra Astin play in RotK? Rosie Cotton - A Eleanor Gamgee - O Lobelia Sackville-Baggins - E 3rd: First letter in the actress who plays Éowyn's first name. 4th: First letter in fat innkeeper's name This isn't all of the letters, you'll get more clues later.

And the final letters will be:
5th is the initial of Tolkien's most tragic hero and 6th is the initial of this person's brother (and father too) Now, who is it??

Thanks, Annunfuiniel.
I thought the person in the 6th referred to the answer to the 5th - although I was wondering about the reference to his brother, since I was pretty sure Turin had none. Here's my offering: 1st is the first of one who was Golden 2nd is the last of a name given to a sister of everyone's favourite tragic hero 3rd and 4th are the beginning of a realm established by one of the Fellowship That should be enough clues, but more will follow in the absence of any answer ...

Hmmm... I'm really not sure yet but this could be
Arag_orn/ost: 1. Ar-Pharazôn 2. Nienor 3.&4. Aglarond or Shag_rat: 1. Smaug 2. Lalaith 3.&4. (same as above) But if it's not then I think I can live with that! [ March 17, 2003: Message edited by: Annunfuiniel ]

Well, I could make you wait 'til the second instalment to find out which one it is ...
... but I won't. Your second answer is correct, Annunfuiniel. Shagrat is the character I was thinking of.

Hmm. Tricksy. Is it Nimloth?
Not quite sure how it works, but this is the best I could do: N: Orbelain I: Cirdan M: Samwise L: Well, I thought it was Voronwe, but that doesn't fit O: ? TH: Lalaith

Well, you have a very nice guess there then! Yes, it is Nimloth:
1. as you suggested Orbelain, also Tárion(quenya) and Rodyn fit 2. yes, Cirdan 3. yes again, Samwise 4. Elwing! 5. Elmo; and I thought that was too obvious... 6.&7. yup, Lalaith it was So, your turn again Saucepan man!
