Like when he shows people his sword, he will spout something off like, Behold the sword that was broken but now reforged. It is the past bane of the dark lord and etc, etc, etc. Why couldn't he just say "behold my sword, aint it cool," "dont touch, its old." (not because it's name is Anduril) I have to agree Strider is really cool, because he is quiet and doesn't preach about himself. The factor of mystery that surrounds him makes up his likability. I find it funny how gandalf has faults as a human, becuase he is forced to assume that form. I bet he gets ****ed off, him being a Maia and everything. Being stuck in the body of an old man, would be taxing on such a being.

Proud, mysterious and very macho! The idea that he has been done out of his rightful inheritance and his determination to regain it makes him a very inspiring character. Having said that, I don't envisage him as being exactly the ideal companion down at the pub. Probably Gandalf would be much more interesting in the long run.

I think Aragorn should be allowed a bit of pride - after all, the kingship was his birthright, yet he didn't have the luxury of just sliding into the throne. He spent a lonely life working his tail off, only to be underappreciated and even scorned by people who didn't realize just how much he was doing for them. If I were in his position, I think I would feel justified in pulling rank from time to time.

Strider is my favorite because he can be so laid back, like when he was in Bree, but also very powerful, menacing, and mysterious. He also likes tramping around in the woods, so i would like to go with him and learn all that he knows about the woods. Gandalf is wise, and seems to know everything, a very interesting character if you ask me. But if i talked to him, probebly all i would get would be riddles in response. Aragorn just seems too proud for me to really like. His change of character from aragorn as strider to aragorn as king really surprised me in how drastic it was. He went from a weather beaten wanderer to a majestic and regal king. I would have prefered him to just stay as plain old Strider. The Road goes ever on and on

Somehow you can connect better with lowly strider than high and mighty aragorn. If you've ever seen 'Angel' (The offshoot of Buffy) I think of him as a tiny bit like that. You know, the image, the billowing coat, the quick moves and fightin techniques. GO STRIDER !!!!!!!

When he regained it, perhaps he was expected to act in a kingly way. But maybe after things settled down, he was able to sneak off into the woods once in a while. I think I'd be a bit afraid of Gandalf. You never knew when he was going to disappar for a while, leaving you in the lurch. Maybe he would be all right to lift a beer or two down at the local, but somehow I have my doubts.

I like Strider more than Aragorn, and the Gandalf that could sit with Frodo blowing smoke rings. Everybody got very serious at the end. I didn't vote. I couldn't even choose between Gimli and Legolas. Both good buddies.

Strider/Aragorn learned what he knew of the world by going out and being IN that world instead of living behind palace walls like most royalty (a generalisation, I know ). That in itself made him a great man. Mithrandir/Gandalf was very old and very wise and uses his knowledge to fight the enemy in just about any way he can be it magic or giving others the confidence they need to get the job done. As for Gandalf just leaving at any time, remember that he usually had urgent matters to attend to everywhere, most usually concerning organizing against Sauron. Just think if he had cloned himself

You get the definite impression that Aragorn's life was all he imagined it could be during his reign and Gandalf got to go back to being the immortal Maiar, Olorin. I have to weigh in on the Gandalf side of the question though, he agreed to be constrained to and it's skills to help fight the Shadow. I can't imagine being as powerful as he was and giving it up.
