I think that there is already a thread on the video games. But since you asked ...
I haven't got past Balin's Tomb myself yet. But to beat the Watcher (as Aragorn), you wade out into the water, parry the tentacles and then chop at them when you get a chance. Each time you sever a tentacle, the Watcher raises his head and you fire as many arrows into it as you can. After four or five times of doing this, it dies.

The scret player is Isildur, he plays just like Aragorn but has more energy. Also there is a secret level when you finish the game where you fight at Orthanc.

There will be more screams of "FOR GONDOR!" and "GONDOR WILL PREVAIL!" before I get through with the Orthanc. Many, many, many, many more (much to my mother's dismay....)
As for Balin's Tomb, which part are you stuck on? [ April 25, 2003: Message edited by: Rynoah, the Overly-Happy ]

Why can't you beat the watcher? Just block, then slice off an arm, and shoot it while it screams in pain! But, you probably shouldn't do it with Gimli until you get better at the game. Get Gimli upgrades too, because he gets real useful when you fight Uruk-hai. Sorry, but I don't have ant cheats. That stragety book is way too expensive for me!

Yay! I finally managed to beat the Cave Troll in Balin's Tomb tonight. But it did take rather an inordinate amount of time. Is there a quicker way to deal with him other than simply trying to avoid him while pumping arrows into him?
Also, is it just me, or do you need an incredibly strong and flexible thumb for this game? I have it on X-Box, and my thumb gets knackered constantly trying to hit the A, Y, X and B buttons in diferent combinations. I end up just hitting them randomly and hoping for the best. Yeah the Xbox controllers are a bit cumbersome next to their PS2 counterparts. What I can advise you to do Saucepan Man, if it is causing you that much grief, is to buy/order a Japanese Xbox pad as Microsoft made them smaller so the smaller handed Japanese could use them!! Of course it would cost you a fair penny to get one imported to the UK so I think you'd better get your thumb into some serious training- thumb wrestling? Or perhaps a quick round of tiddlywinks- you can go first, best of three Saucepan Man!

I don't even want to think about playing TTT for X-Box. The Dreamcast controller is already enough for me to handle. *strokes her cute li'l Playstation controllers*

On-line tiddlywinks, eh Mattius? Sounds like fun.
Although I previously had a PS1, I got an X-Box just so I could enjoy the latest in the (utterly wonderful) Oddworld series (Munch's Oddysee). The controller for the PS1 was much easier to handle than the X-Box, so I'm beginning to wonder whether it was the right decision. Still, the X-Box apparently has a better DVD function, and I certainly need that for my FotR extended edition. Oh well, better get my thumb in training for Amon Hen. A word from the wise, your thumbs will need all the training you can muster for the final level, I'm not going to spoil it for you but its insanely hard!

The next person to mention the final level gets strung up by their toes and tickled to death. Mom was ready to throw a bucket of water on me when I played it because I was screaming and spitting at the screen in a frothing rage. *growls low to herself*

Something I know about!!!! Who are you being? Sorry if you said already but I didn't read the whole thing. To beat the Watcher, parry while standing in the water until all tentacles are up straight in the air. Then chop one off and when the Watcher rises its head from the water, shoot it and continue parrying and repeating until it's dead!
