Sting Elendilmir

I was doing a quiz and i found this answer to one of the questions:

"When Orthanc was searched after Saruman was ousted, Gimli found a secret compartment in Saruman`s chambers which contained the legendary Elendilmir"

Can anyone tell me what the Elendilmir was.

Quote:
Arahel [Arvedui's] son was fostered in Rivendell, and so were all the sons of the chieftans after him; and there also were kept the heirlooms of their house: the ring of Barahir, the shards of Narsil, the star of Elendil, and the sceptre of Annúminas.
Footnote:

Quote:
The sceptre was the chief mark of royalty in Númenor, the King tells us; and that was also so in Arnor, whose kings wore no crown, but bore a single gem, the Elendilmir, Star of Elendil, bound to their brows with a silver fillet.
Vague, but you get the idea.

as an extra note on this subject:

The Elendilmir was (supposedly) on Isildur's person when he was killed, which is why it is said that Saruman must have found Isildur's body.

some extra info I thought you might like!

But if Saruman had the Elendilmir in Orthanc, how was it that Elrond kept it at Imladris with the other heirlooms of Isildur????

Tolkien

When Isildur fell the Elendilmir was not recovered from his person, that is why Saruman found it. Elrond never received the Elendilmir.

There were two of them. The second was made (by the Elves of Rivendell) when the first was lost.
