Isildur dissed in movie?
This is a minor commentary on an aspect of
the film FOTR, somewhat exasperating because I think the picture of Isildur in the movie, both in the prologue and in other allusions and views of him later in the movie, are unneccesarily dismissive and, i think, inaccurate. While listening to a cd of The Silmarillion I noticed this positive exploit of Isildur in the Akallabeth (after Amandil worried about Sauron's influence on Ar-Pharazon) Quote:
thinking he could use the Ring. There he is depicted much more sympathetically, and likeably as someone willing to grow and admit errors. At least a faint glimpse of this Isildur might have been shown (assuming PJ and friends had had an interest in doing so- a rather large assumption) merely by showing some debate or hesitation with the Ring before keeping it and a somewhat less Boromir type portrayal of him in the prologue. Someone with only a movie knowledge of Middle-earth would think Isildur was a sort of doofus Dark Ages type chieftain- not one of the Faithful Numenoreans. It is irritating to me because it would have been just as easy (I think) to portray him more accurately.

While I never considered Isildur to be entirely bad, I doubt it would be worth a flash back to when Isildur collected the seeds from the white tree.
