Advice
I am a collector and modeller of the games workshop lord of the rings hobby games. I find the series' main weakness is it's basis in the films, and localisation around the war of the ring.
I intend to build a figure representing Eöl the "Dark Elf" but i can't find much aesthetic information about him other than the fact he wears black armour and carries a black sword. could anyone who has any idea on this character tell me how they imagine him looking, for me to get ideas for the sculpt. I will be very very grateful to anyone willing to help. |

You're going to build one? How would you do that? It sounds difficult!
Eol to me is very Byronic, a magnetic kind of person, deadly attractive and kind of dark in appearance. I think he just has to be like this to entrap 'the laydeez' Plus there is his secretive nature. Think Mr Rochester, Heathcliff, that kinda guy. It sounds to me that his sword is made of some kind of metal of meteoric extraction and I imagine he wears a helmet that's low on the brow. Make sure you post a pic when done - Eol is one of my favourites. Have you got any of the book-related figures such as Lobelia or Bullroarer Took? The GW range is pretty good for book-Hobbits.

Ah, good ol' cousin Eol! He wasn't really evil, you know, just misunderstood. Actually, it was a smear campaign by those haughtily effete Noldor. A kinsman of Thingol, Eol would appear 'stooped by his smithwork', yet he was no dwarf, 'but a tall Elf of a high kin of the Teleri, noble though grim of face; and his eyes could see deep into shadows and dark places' (per the Silmarillion). I would cast him with dark hair and a scowl, and tall but slightly hunched (a rather Richard III characterization). I am not sure the scale of your miniature, but I don't think you could epitomize his eyes, which would be dark and penetrating.

i was intending to use the armoured celeborn model as a base.
I like the idea of a stooped elf and had always imagined him belieng darker of complexion than most elves. The idea of him being stooped hadn't occurred to me, though it seems quite ovious (he does live underground after all) In my (limited) reading i'm sure that Eöl was more "unfriendly" than evil. If anyones interested, other models i was thinking of doing were bolg and the great goblin (of the middle mountians in TH) If anyone else has any thought please continue to let me know. |
