Did JRRT ever meet Dr. Seuss?
Just a speculation- but Theodore Seuss Geisel was a graduate student in English at Oxford from 1925-1927, just as Tolkien was beginning his tenure of the R&B chair.

I suppose that it is possible. Dr. Seuss' papers are at Dartmouth, if I'm not mistaken, if someone wants to undertake a research project. I do not know if they have his letters or materials from his youth, as opposed to his writings.

Well...Gollum can be quite Grinchy and vice versa. They are both disgruntled misanthropes who live in the mountains. They are both prone to thievery. The Grinch hates Christmases and Gollum hates Hobbitses.

This online archive of the Dr. Seuss collection mentions Seuss's 1925/26 Oxford University Notebook. http://https://oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/tf1000043t/entire_text/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1qoxACMkpuq12N52V_mC7k ZupyeMQ8IjOHYFYqlqyj7CBpza1MaFeudes_aem_AY2clyCbEp pg-6TSg7IRbO2F1oW4j_Y2kt0yitlbRIzz0OtOk7_sSoMFVcwAGmp XJs-e4ppEjudBvrmhqCDbwLRn
Apparently there is a NYT article which discusses the Notebook but I don't have a subscription. Information brought to you by some of my fellow Tolkienists who responded to my query elsewhere, seeing as I was too busy to suss anything out.

Let us not forget that Bilbo is prone to thievery too.

Bilbo was, definitionally, a thief and also, arguably, a cheater.

Well, arguably Bilbo was not a thief, but rather executing the common-law right of trover on behalf of his employer Thorin & Co.
