vBulletin 3.0 Gold Questions
We've upgraded to the new vBulletin 3.0 Gold version, and I'm sure there will be lots of questions. Ask them here.

Will it be permanent? Because quite frankly, i hate it. It completly throws off the mood that i used to have every time i got on the downs.
Also, what's with the green and blue dots by my avatar when i post?

As the announcement on every forum says, no, it will not be permanent. We are working on getting the graphics back in order. I just thought I'd open it up so people could continue to post.

Why does it say "registered user" next to some people's names instead of "Shade of Carn Dûm" or whatever their title is?
Another thing, I was posting in the Quotable Quotes/Quiz Room and I tried to post and got a message that said something like "you can't post because your message is under ten characters" but just before that I had posted an equally short post and didn't get that message. Does a quote not count for message length? |

Personally, I really like the way it looks right now... I don't really notice that many shocking differences; just positive ones... it seems less crowded and more "open"... um... that doesn't make a lot of sense, but I suppose it doesn't matter because I'm probably the only one that's liking it right now. I like it better than the UBB and other VBulletin version. I like it that the messages cover the whole screen instead of being shoved to the right. I even like the blue lines. I hope you don't "fix" it too much.... The only thing I don't like is that it ate my message the first time I tried to post here. Oh well.
What is the difference between Guided Mode and Enhanced Mode? I don't noticed a change toggling between the two.

What the heck! I just got used to using the forum after the last upgrade. Now I'm all lost again.I was just here earlier and everything was fine; this is well quite shocking to say the least.Hope your iron out the graphics because right now (please don't kill me) it looks like crap.I'm not a big fan of the blue lines.Right now Its rather intimidating.I'm afraid to do anything; it looks like it could blow up or something.
Sorry for my rant, Vuelve

Aah, but (going back to my wee avatar problem) I did click on the "Edit Avatar" link and it gave me this lovely message:
Your Current Avatar No Avatar Specified Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post. Do not use an avatar Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it. And that, as they say, is it. No box to put in my URL, no option of uploading, nothing.

Aha! All is revealed (or not ). Thanks pio and Underhillo.
What about the lower limit to the number of words in a message, though? Is that still an issue? And, if so, is it possible to remove it (at least for the Quiz and Quotes Rooms)? Also, what's with the green box after each member's post count telling me (when my cursor hovers over it) that they have started the path to adventure?

Saucepan Man - I think the green box is like User Ratings on UBB because under "member list" everyone has a green box under the column "reputation." And also there is a little icon that looks like a scale underneath everyone's name that if you hover the mouse over it says "Add to _____'s reputation." If you click on it you get a little thing that says (I clicked on yours):
Reputation Add to Reputation: The Saucepan Man What do you think of The Saucepan Man's post? I approve I disapprove Your comments on this post: So my guess is it is like user rating. But "_____ has started the road to adventure" is a really weird caption. |

But about the Reputation... Where can you actually read the messages about your "reputation"? Or are they destined to stay a mystery forever?

Actually, I think this version is VERY cool! I wish I had a lot of free time to explore. Everybody's avatars look very beautiful.

Sorry if this was asked already...
Did a lot of old posts and threads get deleted? I remember my post count over a four hundred but now I'm at 399. It doesn't matter, I'm just curious.

Something hungry
Is this new version inhabited by something hungry? At first I thought I was imagining it, but now I'm pretty sure that it's eating some of my posts. (If this doesn't appear, I'll KNOW... ). I suppose the moderators could be deleting them, but I haven't been posting anything offensive. Is this happening to anyone else, or am I alone and deserted in the lonely, cruel, and desolate world?
When I tried to submit this with four "smilies", I got this message: Quote:

The 'post shrinkage' already happened in the move from UBB to VBulletin, as you can see in the older VB Questions thread, and is due to the fact that VBulleting excluded some old posts (in closed threads and for IIRC) from counting towards your total. I lost exactly 400 posts, for example.
I can't see how new posts get lost; certainly not if they did actually appear and it wasn't a software/connection error. Please verify that and report back. The max number of images in a thread makes sense IMO. Perhaps smilies could be excluded from it, but why should they. |

Reasons to exclude smileys
Submitting something to a forum is like sending an email; the people who read your message can't read your body language, and they can't hear your tone of voice. Most of us are not skilled enough as writers to always express sarcasm/kidding/whatever else in our posts; smileys help us do that and save a whole lot of confusion, and possibly offense. If you have a large post, or are trying to express a "compound emotion" (like: ) it stands to reason that you will have more than three smileys in a post.

The smiley limit gives everyone the excuse to improve the emotional writing

Using the Buddy List
Someone walk me through this version:
On the last version I had the opportunity to look at my Buddy List and send a PM from it. Now when I look at the buddy list it simply lists the names as black text on a white background with no way of clicking on one or a number of them to send a PM. Am I missing a way to send PM's directly from the Buddy List? ~*~ Pio _______________________________________ EDIT: Thank you kindly, BW! (answer below) ~*~ Pio, blind as a bat at times . . .

Sending PM's to Buddies.
Go to QUICK LINKS and choose OPEN BUDDY List.
Click the box by the buddy you want to PM. Click the PM USERS button.

Just a quick question: You know little preview box that comes up when you hover or just click once on threads, why does it only show up on posts I haven't read yet and not on posts that I have? Is it just a board thing for new posts or is my computer just being random?

Ok, I just have a quick, little question...
Now I know that the little green box (the one that says "Gorwingel has started on the path to adventure... blah..blah" when you put your cursor over it) has been asked about before, and that we kind of know what it is for. But I was just wondering... today I was just doing my regular reading of various threads, and I noticed that Saucepan Man had two little green boxes instead of just one! *gasp* Now is the extra box because of Saucepan Man having many messages in his reputations, or is it because of something else? An answer would be greatly appreciated

It's because he's "As faithful as Samwise." So's Esty, now, I think.
Barrow Wight-- the way that PM'ing is set up right now, the system automatically saves a copy of each PM I send, unless I remember to tell it not to. It also defaults to "Ask For Read Receipt", or whatever it's called. I've looked for a way to default these to OFF and I haven't found one yet. Any suggestions?

Anyone knows what's going on?
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I've noticed that a few posts disappeared off some different threads over the course of less than 6 hours. It's about 3 or 4 (I'm not really sure) posts - a bit too much in such a short time period to be a coincidence. It didn't seem like there was anything wrong with the posts either...
Also, my smileys are somehow messed up. They work, but they are in a different order than they used to be. It's nothing important, but it sort of gets on my nerves to have them rearranged after you get used to them being in their places... Is it my computer playing tricks on me again, or does some one else have the same thing? EDIT: I went through more threads today, and realised that way more posts are missing.

I know that deliberately deleted posts can be resurrected since Pio the blessed and merciful bailed me out not so long ago when I accidentally deleted one by accident so is there any chance that they are merely mislaid rather than permanently lost?

I did read your missing post last evening in the Inn, Mith. But now when I look at that thread, it is well and truly gone - nothing left for me to retrieve.
I noticed we can't rate threads in the game forum, either. Anyway, I PM'd Mister Underhill to see if maybe he can sort out the glitch. ~*~ Pio

Thanks for trying Pio. I am quite relieved it did actually exist and it could have been a lot worse - as on the scale of the last time. Guess I had better just get on with the rewrite...

Got your PM, pio. I don't have a clue what might've happened. Sounds like one of those weird things we've had in the past where the server somehow got out of sync. Assuming only posts made during that window have gone missing and that this isn't an ongoing problem, my guess is that something happened with our hosting service. Either way, BW is really the go-to guy for server problems and/or any possible corruption of the actual forum software. The admins are all rather treeish these days, as you know, but I'm pretty sure BW still checks in on a fairly regular basis. I'll PM him to make sure he has a heads-up too.
In the meantime, continue to report any irregularities here. If there's more stuff, I'll probably break this thread off into a new one. As always when it comes to technical difficulties, the more specific you can be, the better. |
