Middle Earth Rock Concert
Imagine a music concert in Middle Earth. What kind of (our) music would there be? I mean, I really sold-out-gotta-go-there concert. What would it be for the different races?

For elves - Celtic/pretty music.
For orcs - "Hitting the Snaga with a Mace" For dwarves - Rock and roll. (pun intended) For hobbits - "Hitting spoons and knives against glasses of water"

I'm gonna take guesses, but I'll just say Nickelback for all Even though it kinda wouldn't go with some..
Orcs- basically anything heavy metal. Blind Guardian, Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Drowning Pool, etc. Elves- I'd have to go with the Celtic music too, Enya, uh....and some other stuff... Hobbits- Toad the Wet Sprocket, and some other classic rock stuff Dwarves- Classic rock also, like Aerosmith, the Doors, some other stuff I'm not familiar with..

Meshuga is my brother's favorite band. He plays electric guitar (very well, I might add) and he can sorta keep up. Their music is crazy, and that's the way he likes it.

I have to say it now--"Linkin Park". Boo ha ha ha.
For the Dwarves--one of my friends was once playing this cd that was recorded completely with percussion instruments. I dunno, for some reason I think that'd work And I completely agree on Barenaked Ladies for the Hobbits. But only if I was invited to the concert. (I love BNL. ) Edited because I couldn't spell to save my life. [ July 20, 2002: Message edited by: Kaze ]

Oh, Nine Inch Nails!! I love them. Ok, how could I forget though!!!!!! I'm so dissapointed in myself. I forgot to put Nickelback!
Hobbits or dwarves: NICKELBACK!!!!! For some reason I have this song stuck in my head. And Treebeard said he wanted his tree girl back, so this is his song: Closer, by Nine Inch Nails Orc: Just For (on Curb it's Just Four. But it's only spelling...) and who's it by?! Yup, that'd be Nickelback If you know the lyrics, you might know why this applies to an orc.

Tolkien would say that rock and roll is only for Orcs.

"Highway to Hell" for orcs and other "baddies." Hmm... And, if we want to expand to oither realms of music, I think some kind of Gregorian chant would work for the dwarves.
For some reason, I think U2's little-known instrumental "Fourth of July" would work for Sauron or Morgoth--better yet, for Gollum.

I think the elves would listen to late medieval/early rennaisance polyphany. Motets and early chansons sound very elvish.
I don't think Gregorian chant seems very dwarvish. Unless you're thinking free and parallel organum. Other forms of the chant have a counter-tenor singing WAY high with very free rhythm. That doesn't seem very dwarvish to me. Hobbits . . . ah . . . Rennaisance madrigals. From England. Very hobbitish. And probably some Ayres. And pavannes and golliards. And Estampies! (But that's medieval, not rennaissance, and it's also French, not English ) Orcs . . . heavist, ear-splitting, skull-crushing, rock-pounding music you can get. The less melody the better! This didn't have much to do with rock'n roll, but oh well! Hey, I actually knew what I was talking about this time!

If we were speaking of modern times:
Elves: Celtic Music or soft rock Hobbits: Pop Music Dwarves: Why do I have this image of Led Zeppelin...or a facial image of ZZ Top...heehee... Men: Rap Orcs: Lots of loud noise...not even music. Vala: New Age music...with a lot of windchimes. Istari: The Eternal Om

Has anyone ever listened to Rammstein? German hardcore. I've never heard a band that sounds more like orcs. Seriously, even looking at the one album (the one with Du Haust and Klavier on it, don't know the title)... it looks like Saruman got mad at them. They've got like, forks and knives sticking into their heads. Freaky stuff, man. *gets scared and runs back to her Celtic music*
