This is in honor of the two best Hobbits ever to grace Middle Earth. I know Hobbits mostly give presents on their birthday, but you have been invited to their celebration in Valinor. (I believe that's where they ended up.) As we are mostly of the race of men here, we costumarily give presents on birthdays. What would be the gift you would bring to Old Bilbo and Frodo of the nine-fingers?

Race of men? I thought we were mostly Barrow-Wights and Evil Spirits on this board!

Hmmm... that's a tough one. What do they like, now? Maybe I could get Bilbo a brand new set of golden writing pens, of all different types and sizes. He'd like that. But I simply cannot think what Frodo would want.

As this is the first time I've officially celebrated the birthdays, I had to think long and hard on an appropriate gift. Something they haven't received before was what I was looking for. So I dug through some old mathoms lying around my house and came up with an acrylic encased pair of dead seahorses for Frodo to remind him of the many steeds he rode in middle earth and an unopened package of red handkerchiefs for Bilbo in case he suddenly finds himself on a new adventure.

It's all I could find.

I'd like to give Bilbo some Intertran software. He'd never use it for the intended purpose, but the disc would make an excellent coaster. Frodo needs to relax. I'd get him a coupon to be redeemed for a facial.

Bilbo's always been easy, hasn't he? Maybe some homemade strussel cake and a big bag of Southlink weed. For Frodo, a specially crafted pair of nine-fingered gloves so he doesn't have to feel awkward on those brisk Valinor mornings, and a framed photo of Samwise to hold him over til the gardner-turned-BMOME takes his ship from the Grey Havens.

For Frodo, I'd get an atlas of star-charts or photographs of galaxies and stars. There are so many passages where he is looking up at the stars or watching them through the night, I think he would enjoy such books.

And, Biblo would be pleased with one of those blank books that book stores sell and (as was already mentioned) new pens. And, maybe a rhyming dictionary since Strider's not around to help him when he gets stuck on a phrase and Frodo is pretty useless when it comes to writing poetry. (After all, he'd never even given it a try until Gandalf fell in Moria)

And obviously, the birthday dinner would have to be huge platters of mushrooms and lots of wine (too bad all the Old Vinyards is gone...)

Pipeweed. Valinor is probably a smoke-free workzone, though.

Well... here's my unbiased opinion... not

Concerning "Biblo" I would give nothing. For he would be a nonexistent character in the Trilogy or Silmarillion or the Hobbit original. It would be a waste of currency to purchase a fine gift for a noncharacter on his/her birthday. As to Frodo, I'd give him... a chevette. He's cool, but not as cool as any of the other characters. Seemed to take the brunt of everything, the weight of the ring, the venom from that spider thingy... yada yada. Just a poor soul in need of a vehicle that provides faster transportation to Mount Doom so that he can get his finger bitten off by Gollum and and go home, across the sea to Valinor. The End

I just read this thread and I think it's great. I don't get why it got left behind at the bottom of Middle Earth Mayhem.

I would get Bilbo a new One Ring, complete with traking device incase any heirs steal it!

I would get Frodo a finger replacement.

Of corse on these presents I would write:
