MEurope?
Look at this:
Its the map of ME projected over Europe! (well that was a bit obvious I guess) How cool is that? Also, is it just me or does Hobbiton fall on London?

Hobbiton is supposed to occupy the same possition in Middle Earth that Oxford occupies in our world.

Hmmm, Norway falls under Northern Waste, if that's what the map says..?!

Look, Edoras is in the Alps!
Oh, right , that isOxford...silly me... I went there today, it was kinda boring (no offence to any Oxforders) and the shop thats supposed to have the most on Tolkien was shutting down and it only had some translations of the Hobbit in Yugoslavian or smth. and a dictionary of Elvish-English English-Elvish and all the rules of those languages, grammar etc. I feel so stupid for not buying it now I think of all the wonderful things it had in it... *LePetitChoux kicks herself*.... ah well...

I thought it was spooky, but seeing Hobbiton smack dab into London made perfect sense to me: I never thought that Tolkien would have drawn ME over the entire map of Europe (which at this point, I think he did).
Where'd you dig that up? [ November 02, 2002: Message edited by: Neferchoirwen ]

Nah. I looked at it again...and I think Tolkien eyeballed it instead of drawing over it.

So Mordor is located right around...Turkey? Eesh, my geography isn't too great. It's right above Greece, anyway. Guess that would tally with the description of its being generally dry, but I'm having a hard time reconciling Mount Doom with olive trees and baklava - those came along later, I guess. Not to mention how the Watchers don't seem to have been carved in Corinthian, Doric OR Ionic styles... . Ah well. It's all rather silly anyway.

Personally I don't think Hobbiton falls on London, it seems more north and middle than that.
Hmmmph, Glasgow's a mountain. And most of the Highlands are in the sea.
