Hi! Really need help...
Hey, my name is Ampersand, I'm new here..
I need to know a few things, can anyone out there please help me? I'm in a trivia contest, and I'm stumped on a few of the questions. 1. How long did Aragorn reign after the War of the Ring? 2.What is Elrond's relationship to Galadriel? Are they related or anything? 3. What is Saruman's name in Elvish? All help would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm sorry, but this is not the forum for trivia answers - the Books forum is meant for in-depth book discussions. I'm moving this thread to the Novices and Newcomers forum; perhaps you will get answers there.
PS - You can try entering the names in the search function (top right of the page) either here or on the Books forum - that will give you a list of threads which could contain the answers. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 5:26 AM December 12, 2003: Message edited by: Estelyn Telcontar ]

Thanks a lot!!
By the way, mind telling me where you got this info from? Was it just from LOTR or from other sources like Silmarillion? |

1. Appendix B to THe Lord of the Rings, Tale of Years
2. The Silmarillion, genealogic table for the descendants of Finwe 3. various sources, mainly Unfinished Tales, 4, III, istari essay I would always recommend the primary sources over secondary ones. Asking on this forum, on the other hand, can be much better than the Encyclopedia of Arda, which is greatly limited by its brevity. |

I would not recommend the Encyclopedia either. I only use it for quick trivia questions, eg. the ones raised in this thread. It can be a lifesaver in a trivia game.

Regarding the Elrond quesiton, don't forget that Elrond was not only Galadriel's son-in-law, they were also first cousins three times removed and first cousins twice removed, if my memory serves me.
