New Tolkien letter discovered in Germany
I read of this find on the German Tolkien Society forum and was very sceptical at first. However, the Tolkien Collector's Guide considers it genuine. It is a typical fan mail answer, with no particular value or new thoughts, and was probably written by a secretary and signed by Tolkien. You can read about it here.

Check your attics everyone, you never know what might turn up!
I like the fact that although a very routine sort of letter, JRRT has taken time to (presumably) dictate a specific answer, eg mentioning the teacher by name. So much better than the generic 'thank you for your kind interest, etc etc' that could be sent to anyone.

Nice!
It's nice to see that he made an effort to give a specific reply, particularly as there were children involved.
