Where in the world did you get the idea that Peter Jackson and Co. were attempting or had any ideas at all in their minds of <i> improving</i> upon the Lord of the Rings?????? They are simply making a way cool movie based on a way cool book. There are no thoughts of 'improving upon' or 'trying to top' or even 'I think my way is best'. He's making the movie because he's a huge fan (just like us) who has the talent, ambition, know-who and money to do it!
