See it Saw it!
This is based on a childrens' programme that was on TV a while ago. Basically the "quizmaster" asks questions, where each answer is a letter. The players write down the letters that they get, and after the set of questions finishes, all the letters, in order, form a word. The first person to write this word wins, and gets to ask questions!
An example of a question: How old was Aragorn at the time of his ascension to the throne?
The example can be the first question. I'll post the next later today, the third tomorow, etc. etc. You needn't post until the set of questions is finished, unless
I edited it because I'd made a mistake. [ January 01, 2003: Message edited by: LePetitChoux ] |
The second letter is the first letter in the Sea God's name.
|
heya, erm, actually, im just trying if my new user works. my old one was removed.
|
This is not the place. This is a quiz thread, not a sig-testing thread. Try this thread.

Third clue:
The race which Boromir belonged to. [ January 01, 2003: Message edited by: LePetitChoux ] |
The next letter is the first in the "official" name of Mount Doom.
And the last is the 4th in the name of the Waterfall that Boromir's Funeral boat goes over. And now, if you have it, post the word which is formed from the clues! |
Tuor? That makes sense, but unless the tale of years in my copy of LotR is incorrect Aragorn was 88. 2931-3019
|
Ooops. Well I've changed it now.
|
I got that clue about Boromir all wrong, I thought it'd be the name of a man.. Well, the answer is Numenor..

Right!
|
OK, the first two letters are the two first letters of JRRTolkien's mum's name.
The third letter: How old did the old Took become? 123 - G 147 - F 130 - N 137 - H The fourth letter is the first letter in the answer of this little riddle of Gollum's: It cannot be seen, cannot be felt Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt It lies behind stars and under hills And empty holes it fills It comes first and follows after Ends life, kills laughter The fifth letter is the first letter of Gandalf's name in the far West The last letter is the first letter in the name of Merry's father. Mandos!
|
Of course. Very correct. Too easy probably.
|
A little harder now...
The first letter is the initial of its bearer The second is the first letter in the (informal?) name of a town near the Lonely mountain The third is the second in the name of its bearer The 4th is the first letter of the Lonely Landmark in the Hobbit The 5th is the third in the name of a river which runs from Ered Mithrin down to the Bay of Belfalas. And the last four are an objest which Bilbo finds on his journeys which proves very important later on. (well duh! ) Good luck! |
I´m not really sure...
Glamdring? |
Yep!

OK, I thought this game was quite fun, so I'll try to bring this thread back to life.
1st letter: Who did Bill the Pony belong to before he joined the fellowship? Bill Ferny - B Farmer Maggot - P Fatty Bolger - S 2nd: Which character does Alexandra Astin play in RotK? Rosie Cotton - A Eleanor Gamgee - O Lobelia Sackville-Baggins - E 3rd: First letter in the actress who plays Éowyn's first name. 4th: First letter in fat innkeeper's name This isn't all of the letters, you'll get more clues later. |
is it bombur, one of the 13 dwarves in the Hobbit?
PS, I used to watch see it- saw it. it was mark whatsit from SMART, right? |
Nope, not Bompur. Here's the rest of the letters.
5th: Who was Frodo's father? Drogo Baggins- A Bilbo Baggins- E Otho Sackville-Baggins - O Rorimac Brandybuck - U 6th & 7th: the first letters in Elwing's father's name 8th: Who was Fëanor's wife? Nienna - K Nerdanel - L Morwen - M |

|
Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo
It's that funny old chap, Tom Bombadillo Or, to be more specific, the answer is Bombadil. Edit: Darn - too late. And I logged on at work, specifically to answer it too! [ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: The Saucepan Man ] |
Muhhahahaa! I beat you, Saucepan Man!
Now seriously, I'm so sorry I got it first, you having that nice rhyme and all... I didn't even solve those first four letters myself! Oh, I don't deserve the gredit for this, I feel so low, shame on me! |
Well, no matter how bad it makes you feel Annunfuiniel, you were first. You make a new one.
|
Ok, but I warn you I haven't done this before.
1st is the second letter from the name of "the second of the nine" 2nd is the first in the name of the sun 3rd&4th are the first letters in the name of the Leader of the Nandor To be continued... |
And the final letters will be:
5th is the initial of Tolkien's most tragic hero and 6th is the initial of this person's brother (and father too) Now, who is it?? |
Khamul = H
Anar = A Lenwe = LE Turin = T Hurin = H Haleth |
Yep yep! Great job, Saucepan man! Oh, though the last clue referred to Haleth's father&brother, Haldad and Haldar.
Please carry on. |
Thanks, Annunfuiniel.
I thought the person in the 6th referred to the answer to the 5th - although I was wondering about the reference to his brother, since I was pretty sure Turin had none. Here's my offering: 1st is the first of one who was Golden 2nd is the last of a name given to a sister of everyone's favourite tragic hero 3rd and 4th are the beginning of a realm established by one of the Fellowship That should be enough clues, but more will follow in the absence of any answer ... |
Hmmm... I'm really not sure yet but this could be
Arag_orn/ost: 1. Ar-Pharazôn 2. Nienor 3.&4. Aglarond or Shag_rat: 1. Smaug 2. Lalaith 3.&4. (same as above) But if it's not then I think I can live with that! [ March 17, 2003: Message edited by: Annunfuiniel ] |
Well, I could make you wait 'til the second instalment to find out which one it is ...
... but I won't. Your second answer is correct, Annunfuiniel. Shagrat is the character I was thinking of. |
Nice of you not to make me wait.
Ok, new clues: 1.-is the last letter in the name of the most important day of elves' week 2.-is second in the name of one who always dwelled near the sea 3.-is third in the name of a ringbearer 4.-is second in the name of one who was saved by Ulmo There you go! And the rest will follow... |
The rest, please?
|
Ooops, sorry, this thread just slipped my mind... Ok, the rest:
5.-is the last letter in the name of Celeborn's said ancestor 6.&7.-are the end of 'Laughter' |
Eeek! Wow thats going to take a lot of thinking!
|
Hmm. Tricksy. Is it Nimloth?
Not quite sure how it works, but this is the best I could do: N: Orbelain I: Cirdan M: Samwise L: Well, I thought it was Voronwe, but that doesn't fit O: ? TH: Lalaith |
Well, you have a very nice guess there then! Yes, it is Nimloth:
1. as you suggested Orbelain, also Tárion(quenya) and Rodyn fit 2. yes, Cirdan 3. yes again, Samwise 4. Elwing! 5. Elmo; and I thought that was too obvious... 6.&7. yup, Lalaith it was So, your turn again Saucepan man! |
Oh, goodie.
1st is the first in a settlement in the Shire 2nd is the last in five of the Dwarves that accompanied Bilbo 3rd and 4th are the beginning of an Elven King 5th is the fourth of one who bore the One Ring 6th is the first of an Orcish leader 7th is the third of a renowned Dwarf And that's it ... |
