Who says this??

The part in FotR where they're eating 'tomatoes, sausages, and nice crispy bacon,' when Frodo runs up to put out the fire, you hear someone say, 'Oh that's nice!! Ash on my tomatoes!!' I always thought that was Pippin. I sounds like him to me, and the accent sounds right. But I saw on one website where I was downloading sainds that it was Merry. I just wondered what y'all thought, and if anyone knows for sure. <BR>Arwen

It sounds like Pippin to me, though I never caught the "ash on my tomatoes" part. <P><A HREF="http://www.stupidring.com/fotrscript/" TARGET=_blank>This Transcript</A> has the line spoken by Pippin as well.<P>H.C.

I though it sounded like Pippin but never though about it much... *goes to rewatch it*

I always thought it was Merry just because he was the last one talking before the camera pulls away for the wide-shot, but now that I think about it, it does <I>sound</I> more like Pippin.

As a Scot myself, albeit one with a very different accent to Billy Boyd, I can assure you that it was Pippin!

I read a script online where it said that it was Merry. If I can find it, I'll link to it.<P>-Menelien

Just to make sure we differentiate here.<P>Script: The actual document used while filming. As far as I know, this is not available to the public.<P>Transcript: Someone watching the movie writes down what he or she sees and hears. <P>Obviously the later is falible.<P>H.C.

I would <I>love</I> to live in Scotland!! I love Ireland a lot, too, but I really think I like Scotland a tad better. I have many Scottish ancestors, so maybe that's why I feel Scotland calling out to me. <BR>Anyways, thanks for y'all's help! I was almost sure it was Pippin, because of the accent, but wondered what everyone else thought.<BR>Arwen

I too always thought that Pippin said it, and like HC I never caught the part about the tomatoes. I guess I'll have to take on the arduous task of watching the film again

Duncariel 10-28-2003 10:26 AM

I was listening to it with my eyes closed once, and that was the first time I heard the tomato part. But I am rather sure that it was Pippin, as the voice that says it is rather high and squeaky.

Elentári_O_Most_Mighty_1 10-28-2003 12:19 PM

I'm an eighth Scottish!<BR>Hmm, I thought it was Merry. Oh well.

Silmiel of Imladris 10-28-2003 04:03 PM

I think it was Pippen too. Whoever it was that said it they squeaked the line and of course Pippen is the squeakyest of them all.
